On Friday, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office announced that a woman from Pacoima pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and vehicular manslaughter. These charges were in connection with a traffic accident that ended the life of a LAPD motorcycle officer.
Thirty-three year old, Qaneak Shaney Cobb, had originally pleaded not guilty to the two felony charges of driving under the influence of a drug causing injury as well as possession of cocaine. This came from the April 5th crash that left LAPD Officer, Christopher Cortijo badly injured.
According to the District Attorney’s Office report, Officer Cortijo was allegedly stopped at a red light when Cobb hit his motorcycle from behind.
Twenty-Six Year old Officer Christopher Cortijo was a veteran of the Los Angeles Police department. He died four days after the crash from his injuries.
The first charges were against Cobb and filed by the District Attorney’s Office, before Officer Cortijo’s death.
Cobb pleaded not guilty to any of the current charges on the Friday morning hearing which was in front of the Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge, Michael Kellogg.
According to the statement that was released, her bail was set at $1 million. Cobb is due to return to court for her preliminary hearing on July 10th.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Cobb has had some prior run in’s for drugs. She had a prior conviction of Grand Theft as well as a drug possession. She is going to face twenty-five years to life in the state prison if she is convicted for the amended charges.
