Older Woman Struck and Killed by Hit and Run Driver
On late Monday, a sixty-seven year old woman was killed after she had been struck by a hit and run driver as she crossed the street going towards Lakewood Regional Hospital.
The sixty-seven year old woman sadly died at the scene of the incident. According to the news release from the Lost Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, The victim had been walking across the 3700 block of South Street with her daughter around ten o’clock that night when she was sadly hit by a car. The sixty-seven year old victim has been identified by the L.A. County Coroner’s office as Teresa Hernandez. According to Lt. David Smith she was from Downey.
Even though Teresa’s daughter was with her at the time of the accident, she was luckily uninjured. She had already crossed the street when her mother was hit by the vehicle.
Hit and Run Witness, Gentry Newsom’s Statement:
I heard the daughter say that…they looked down the street and they seen a car pulling out of the housing down the road there… and they figured they could make it. So she took off across the street, and her mother was right behind her. And when she got to the other side she turned and boom, it happened so fast.
The hit and run vehicle has been described as a “compact black Nissan or Honda” that fled the scene and fled westbound toward the Downey area. The police investigators believe that the car probably sustained some major front-end damage. Anyone with any information about the crash or the car/suspect please call the Sheriff’s Department’s Lakewood Station at 562-623-3500.
It’s so sad this family has to deal with the loss of Teresa but also has to deal with not knowing the driver who killed this woman. Please help if you have any information, call the Lakewood Station as soon as you can.
