Two times in five months a mother has had to rush to save her child who had suffered an attack from a neighbor’s pit bull.
Mother, Llara Sutherland’s Statement About Her Son’s Dog Bite Incident:
It was a matter of five to ten seconds — Quick. The dog turned and just went.
According to the reports, Atreyu was simply in his yard and was watering the plants when he was suddenly blindsided by a medium sized dog. He said that he remembers hearing some barking but never thought anything of it. The next thing he knew the pit bull was running in his direction.
Ateryu had to wear bandages over his right bicep to cover the scratches and punctures that was left due to the dog’s bite.
According to the reports, the first attack happened around Halloween of the prior year. That was when Atreyu was helping his dad put up the yard decorations. That’s when he got bit and suffered multiple bite injuries to his leg.
Since this latest attack the dog is being kept at the City of El Cajon’s Shelter.
However, the city reportedly told the Sutherland family that there is a possibility that the pit bull could actually be returned to their neighbor’s home.
The thought of the dog returning is quite worrisome to the Sutherland family.
The first time it happened should have been enough. It was enough for me.
According to the mother, Llara, both her son and daughter have to take anxiety medicine after the attacks. The dog wasn’t removed from their neighbors home right away and the dog’s presence of course scared the kids.
Crystine’s (Ateryu’s Sister) Statement:
If the dog can get him it can get me, it can get anyone else in the neighborhood.
Llara said that if the dog remains on the property the whole family doesn’t feel safe. She has to stand on the porch and watch them pass the own house on their walk to school. A lot of the time she has to even drive the kids to school and pick them up due to passing that dog.
Llara has a pit bull and claims it isn’t the breeds fault. It’s about the responsibility of the owners and the city.
If my dogs attacked a person, a human being, then they wouldn’t be my dogs. It’s just as simple as that.
The city reportedly told Llara that the dog could actually return home to its owner’s property. Of course the dog would be on restrictions, like a possible muzzle order.
She’s of course been trying to contact the city attorney’s office and do whatever she can to fight this.
The dog is currently under a ten day quarantine so that Animal Services can investigate the situation.

The skilled attorneys at the DAG Law Firm will assist you in knowing clearly whether you are liable for Comparative Negligence (a victim’s level of responsibility in the provocation of the dog’s aggression) as well as the “Bad Dog” exception, in which signs are clearly displayed on the property, indicating “Beware of Dog.” In some cases, a property owner or landlord may be held liable for damages caused by a tenant’s dog if they had prior knowledge of aggressive. Other conditions, such as a landlord’s failure to enforce dog removal when a tenant breaches a “No Dog” policy in their rental agreement may result in property owner liability.
