SUV vs Bicycle Crash

Sadly bicycle riders do not get enough credit. Going out on the open road is pretty dangerous for them. They have zero protection from the crazy vehicle drivers that have no respect for the riders.

Recently, a man was hit and sadly killed by an SUV as he was riding his bicycle one early Saturday morning. According to the police, the motorist was arrested due to suspicion of driving under the influence. Seriously? Some poor innocent man lost his life due to someone’s carelessness.

Jennifer Manzella who is a spokeswoman for the Newport Beach police, said that they responded to Newport Boulevard and Industrial Way after they had gotten the call at 1:19 in the morning. The call said that there was a crash that involved a vehicle and two bicyclists.

Some of the witnesses told the police that they saw a 2015 Kia Sorento traveling north on Newport Boulevard, the vehicle then hit two bicyclists and didn’t even stop.

Hit and Run Crash

Forty-one year old, Jose Vasquez-Perez was the cyclist who was pronounced dead at the scene. The injuries of the other cyclists wasn’t immediately known. Pretty sad that someone could hit two people and just leave them to die.

According to the police, the driver of the Sorento was later found on Newport Boulevard. The driver is just a twenty-five year old named Taylor Russell Evans. Evans is from Santa Ana and was of course arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence causing bodily injury, as well as hit and run resulting in death and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Evans was later released from the Orange County Jail after the bond was posted.

Police Search for Bicycle Crash Suspect

I’ll never quite understand how someone could hit someone with a vehicle and then just leave the scene. First of all it’s very illegal and second of all how could you just leave someone injured along the side of the road?

Police are now needing the public’s help in finding the hit and run driver who hit a man who was just riding his motorized  bicycle in South Los Angeles. The hit left the man in critical condition.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the hit and run incident happened near the intersection of 48th Street and Ninth Avenue. Luckily it was also captured on a surveillance camera.

Injured Man

The victim is a thirty-five year old man and was riding westbound on 48th Street when a motorist made a left onto Ninth Avenue and then hit his motorized bicycle.

The motorist reportedly had at least one passenger inside of their vehicle. Since this was a “hit and run” of course the vehicle failed to stop and offer any help to the victim, which is required by law. It also happens to be the nice, human thing to do.

The officers were dispatched to the scene around 3:40 p.m. where they found the victim lying in the street. Paramedics quickly rushed the man to a local hospital.

Motorist’s Description: 5 foot 8 inches tall. Latino man. Weighs around 180-200 pounds He had dark hair. The man was last seen wearing a gray baseball cap, gray jacket, white t-shirt and blue jeans. The passenger inside of the vehicle was described as a 5 ft 8 in tall Latino man. He had black hair and a mustache. Not a lot to go on.  The car though, was a 1997-99 four door burgundy Oldsmobile Cutlass.

Bicycle Rider Crashes Due to Drone

Drone’s are on the rise. Almost everyone has a drone for fun or even for work purposes. It’s kind of odd to hear about  a bicycle crash with a drone.

According to reports, a California race ended pretty unlucky for one bicyclist when he ended up flipping over his handlebars due to his front tire colliding with a stray drone.

The man unfortunately suffered from some road rash and damage to his helmet. However, he somehow managed not to have any broken bones. The operator of the drone offered to pay for the rider’s helmet and bike wheel.

Bus vs Bicycle

A little girl riding her bike isn’t something that usually ends in tragedy but sometimes it does. Sadly, a thirteen year old girl who was riding her bike at a Redondo Beach intersection has lost her life after she was fatally hit by a bus.

The incident happened at the intersection of the Pacific Coast Highway and Knob Hill Avenue just before 6 in the evening.

According to the police, a city bus was traveling southbound on the right hand land on PCH. That is when the little girl who was riding bikes with friends entered into the traffic lane. The girl hasn’t been identified by the police but she sadly died at the crash scene. Her friend luckily wasn’t hit.

Lt. Shaw Freeman’s Statement:

Not sure if they were going to try and cross the lane or maybe just came out into the right-hand lane and was going to go back up to the sidewalk, but unfortunately, the bicyclist was hit by the bus.

The young girl sadly left this world way too soon. Her friends say that she had a “caring personality”.

Friend, Chandra Le’s Statement:

She was always nice to everyone, no matter if you were mean to her, she was always nice back. And she was never mad at anyone for anything.

Police are going to keep investigating this incident, however there is no evidence that the driver of the bus did anything “criminal”.
