Bicycle Race Ends in Scary Scenario
Bicycle races aren’t something you would think would be scary however, there’s always a risk for an accident when you’re out and about.
A bicycle race in California last week should have ended badly for one finishing competitor. Thankfully the rider survived a chain reaction crash that sent his bike “pinwheeling” off a concrete bridge. The man was left dangling over the edge in a sure to be scary situation.
Mike Allec is one of the group racers who were sprinting through the Santa Barbara County Road Race on Saturday. The race is pretty hardcore, being an 85 mile, six lap, uphill climb. This happens in the Santa Maria area.
Bicycle Race
The riders all fought hard for their position during the race. As they all came to the finish line, one of the bicyclist suddenly fell. The riders behind the fallen rider had no time to react to his sudden fall.
A video was found from the competitor’s rear facing camera which showed that Allec collided with the fallen cyclist’s bike. Allec then went sailing over the bridge’s parapet. This was on Santa Maria Mesa Road.
The bike then fell about thirty fet to the dusty creek bottom below. Luckily Allec managed to hook his arms over a concrete ledge to save his life.
According to the comments about the bike incident, other riders who fell suffered from broken bones and even a punctured lung.
Allec came out, almost unharmed which is a miracle.

I’ve been in some bike crashes before but never anything that was really life threatening. When I looked down and saw how far down my bike was I thought ‘That…that would’ve been bad.
Allec was part of a cycling team called “Carefast Sorck Cycling Team”.

Words cannot express the gratitude for him being able to walk away from this with road rash, this could have ended much much worse.
