Alcohol Might Have Played a Role in Bicyclist Death
Authorities think that alcohol might have played a part in a bicyclist’s death. On Tuesday night a bicyclist has died after being hit by a car near the Pacific Coast Highway.
Lt. Jeff Hallock from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, said that the thirty-eight year old bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Haitham Gamal.
The driver and passenger of the car were hospitalized after the sedan had overturned after they hit the bicyclist. Lt. Hallock said that the accident was reported around 11:15 in the night on Tuesday. The accident happened near the Green Lantern intersection.
According to the report, the car was a 2001 Acura. The Acura and the bicyclist were both going south on the Pacific Coast Highway.
Lt. Hallock said that after the impact the driver of the Acura lost control of the car and then it overturned. The nineteen year old driver of the Acura and the eighteen year old passenger were both taken to the hospital, they were to treated for head trauma.
Alcohol Might have been a factor in the Bicyclist Crash
Lt. Hallock believes that alcohol is a likely factor in the accident. The crash is still under investigation however there have been no citations or arrests at this time. The investigators were deputies from the department’s major accident reconstruction team.
