Big Rig Driver Dies in Crash
A big rig driver is dead following a Thursday morning accident in which the truck he was driving came off of a northbound Highway 99 lane and crashed near a nearby apartment complex building.
CHP officials confirm that just before 10 a.m. the big rig smashed through a concrete wall and a couple of cars before coming to a stop just feet from an apartment complex structure, just north of the Lander Avenue exit on Hwy 99.
The big rig driver sadly died on the scene of the crash. There was another man that had to be sent to the hospital with minor injuries. That man was struck by the big rig while he was waiting inside his Toyota pickup truck.
CHP Spokesman, Eric Parsons Statement:
There wasn’t any physical evidence that the driver took evasive action. Just that the vehicle left the roadway and traveled down the shoulder and into the wall.
According to the reports, the concrete sound wall is going to need to be fixed due to the accident. There is also a parking structure with solar panels on top that will need to be fixed as well.
The CHP said that the big rig had smashed into three parked cars before it stopped just a few feet in front of an Avena Bella apartment building.
Apartment Resident, Shawna Olivas Statement:
It’s definitely something we’ve been concerned about. We hoped it would never come to life, but it has.
The accident called for the Hazmat crews to be called in due to the fact there there was fuel leaking onto the road.
There’s an ongoing investigation going on at this time. The officials haven’t said how much the damages are going to cost to fix everything.
Driver Killed by Big Rig Rollover
Another tragic accident happened on Thursday afternoon when a sixty-one year old driver was killed by a big rig rollover. The big rig rolled over the person’s car on the northbound 5 Freeway which is near Sylmar.
The crash happened between a big rig and a white AT&T service truck. It happened just after 1 p.m. near the Roxford Street exit. There were three lanes that had to be temporarily shut down and there was a SigAlert issued until the CHP could reopen at least one lane.
The two right lanes were blocked until 2:15 p.m. however it’s unclear what caused the crash and the identity of the driver has not been released at this time.
AT&T provided a Statement:
We were saddened to learn of this and our thoughts go out to our employee’s family, friends and coworkers. We’ll do whatever we can to assist law enforcement in the investigation of the accident.
Big Rig Crash
Crashes happen often and another one happened in Los Angeles when a driver of a big rig truck crashed and crushed a pickup truck in a Los Angeles suburb area. The driver unhitched the trailer and fled the scene of the life ending crash.
Police are now searching for the driver of the big rig.
The authorities say that the 18 wheeler rig was involved in a minor crash around a block away before the truck ran a red light and hit the pickup just after 3 a.m. in Vernon.
The television news reports showed that the big rig’s trailer was laying on top of a mangled truck. The man in the pickup truck sadly died at the scene of the crash.
The driver was freed from the crash and taken from the hospital and police say he was in good condition.
