Apparently riding your bike in California can be pretty darn risky. A suspect has now been arrested for their connection with a hit and run crash in Pico Rivera area. This happened on a Friday morning and sadly left one woman dead.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Lt. Steve Tenney, there was a Honda Accord that was reported to having struck the woman. This was around 2:07 in the morning at the intersection of Rex Road and Rosemead Boulevard.
At first the suspect’s vehicles was supposed to be a dark green color. However, after several hours of investigating they were able to arrest the driver of a blue-grey Accord. They pulled him over for having several code violations. This was at the intersection of Pioneer Boulevard and Saragosa Street which is in West Whittier.
The twenty-one year old driver was a Pico Rivera resident, Berta Ramirez. She was determined to be the suspect in the hit and run after they say the extensive damage done to the car’s front end. Ramirez is being held on a $50,000 bail.
The unnamed victim (to the press anyways) appeared to have been riding her bike on the sidewalk when she was hit.
There were skid marks on the sidewalk and the concrete embankment that shows the car jumped the curb when it struck the innocent bicycle rider.
The woman had pretty severe injuries and had to be taken to a local hospital. She sadly, later died due to her injuries.
Another bicycle incident where the bike rider was struck and just left to die or suffer alone. How cruel is that?
This bicycle hit and run incident is a little different. The bicyclist was killed on Sunday but a hit and run motorist. The vehicle was an SUV and the crime took place in an unincorporated Anaheim area. Then a chase broke out across Orange County to try to catch the suspect. The chase eventually ended with a police shooting in Seal Beach.
Fifty-two year old, Encarnacion Salazar Munoz was hit by the vehicle around 5:30 in the morning. This was in the 9500 block of Ball Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the suspect vehicle as well as the driver (Jason Rocha) were chased across Orange County to Seal Beach Boulevard. Rocha crashed at Westminister and then was shot at Seal Beach by a Police Officer.
The family of the victim gathered on Sunday night to bring flowers and candles to the spot where the man was killed. He was a father of three. According to reports, Munoz was the sole provider for his family.
Jaretzi Quintana’s Statement:
He was an amazing person, a caring person, a loving person.
Family and friends say that he was a hard working man who lived for his family. He was “nothing but a nice guy”.
The coroner’s office was called around 6 o’clock that morning.
Anaheim (police department) subsequently and shortly thereafter came into contact with the Ford and a pursuit ensued. Our officers lost sight of the vehicle for a minute and when they found it again, it had crashed into a fence at Seal Beach Boulevard and Westminster in Seal Beach.
The chase ended around 5:44 in the morning according to the CHP dispatcher.
Michael Henderson’s Statement from the Seal Beach Police Department:
A responding Seal Beach officer discharged his firearm at the suspect as a result of the suspect’s actions. There were no injuries to the officer or the suspect, and the suspect was taken into custody.
Henderson said that the hit and run crash is now being handled by the CHP as well as the Seal Beach Police Department.
