CHP Gets Involved in Many Crashes

CHP (California Highway Patrol) gets involved in many crashes and their investigations. Sadly, in one of their most recent investigations at least four people were killed. Other people were sadly injured by the crash. The crash happened on Saturday, after a truck that was traveling on Coronado Bay Bridge in the San Diego area. The truck veered off the road and ended up falling of the bridge, landing 60 foot.

The crash happened just after 3:30 in the evening. According to CHP Officer,  Jake Sanchez, the driver of the pickup truck is suspected of driving under the influence. The driver hit a guard rail and then the truck rolled and landed on a crowd of people who were at the Chicano Park.

According to the reports, among the four people who died was a sixty-two year old man, a fifty year old woman, a fifty-nine year old man and a forty-nine year old woman.

Witness’s Statement to Local News:

I [saw] that truck come flying off the ramp here and onto the people that were underneath them. I was that close to them. It’s terrible.

Dolores D’Angelo is another witness who was attending a local festival at Chicano park. D’ Angelo was actually scheduled to perform later with a band.

D’Angelo’s Statement:

Pieces of car parts were flying all over the place. When we got up, we turned around, everybody started running over there because we realized, there were people sitting there – there were people sitting right there. We were trying to get in to see if we could maybe lift up the car, move the car out of the way to see if we could get the people out. There were so many people crowded by then. I was trying to call 911 and I think I called it like four times and I don’t know that I ever hit ‘send’ properly because I got really nervous; I got really scared.

I saw a car flying through the air, right off the bridge. It looked like — I couldn’t see anybody driving the car. It looked like as if Superman had thrown a car right off the bridge. It was just flying down.

The San Diego Police Department aka the SDPD and the California Highway Patrol did say that there was at least four deaths due to this crash. Police as well as two others sadly there were seven other people who suffered minor injuries.

CHP Tries to Help with the Crashes

The driver of the crashed vehicle was later identified as, twenty-four year old, Richard Anthony Sepolio. Luckily Sepolio is alive, however he is in critical condition. Richard was hospitalized due to his own injuries and later arrested on suspicion of a DUI. Hopefully he makes a full recovery and learns from his actions. He will be charged with vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated as well as a DUI causing injury or death as well as some other related charges.

According to the CHP, Sepolio is actually an active duty service member with the Navy. Sepolio was stationed in Coronado.

CHP Officer, Sanchez Statement:

It’s horrible, it’s horrific. There’s people down below, bodies — just innocent people that are just down here having a good time and now they’re gone. We feel for their families.

Everyone wants to have a good time, but when that good time is hurting other’s it’s time to take it down a notch and grow up a little. You can’t harm others for self pleasure.
