Construction Site Collapsed
Construction sites are always label with warning signs. Things aren’t fully stable yet, and there’s a lot of things going on in one area. Construction crews always try to make sure things stay safe but sometimes things happen and they can’t always control that.
According to reports, at least seven construction workers were injured during a second floor collapse in Los Angeles. Luckily, those who were injured only suffered minor injuries. The fire officials say that this happened at a four story construction site.
Firefighters had to be called to the building which was located in the 1000 block of S. Olive street. It reportedly happened just before 7:15 p.m.
The reports says that the construction workers were pouring concrete in a scaffold area of the second floor when a section of the floor collapsed. According to LAFD luckily no one was trapped but five of the seven workers had to be transported to the local hospital.
<p> We've cordoned off the area where the collapse occurred and the Department of Building and Safety and Cal/OSHA are coming out to do an inspection to make sure that everything is ready for workers to go back in and start rebuilding.
This particular construction site is supposed to become a residential apartment building
Construction Project Leaves Workers Injured
Another construction accident happened but this time near Oakland. According to Fire Officials thirteen workers were working at a construction project and injured when they were scaffolding on a second floor and it collapsed and the men fell more than ten feet to the below floor.
Chief Ian McWhortey who is the Oakland Fire Battalion Chief said that the men were working on the second level. They were working at the 3093 Broadway building at 9:30 a.m. and were pouring concrete for the flooring support when the floor gave way and the worker scarily fell to the next floor. At this time, no one is sure of why the collapse happened.
However, there was a video posted to social media just moments after the collapse that showed a man splayed out in the way concrete and barley moving. There were other people whose legs were buried in the soggy concrete. Other men were shouting and hurrying to help their colleagues. Of course they probably had to work fast before the concrete dried.
On-site workers did a great job with assisting those under small debris.
There were a total of thirteen people transported to the local hospital. Amazingly they all had minor injuries. Some of which were: back strains, bruises, and scrapes. According to McWhortey, Cal/OSHA and paramedics are investigating the incident.
According to reports, the building is being built by Johnstone Moyer Inc. the project is listed as a multi-story, mixed use building. It’s going to have 423 apartment units as well as thousands of feet of retails space.
