Hit and Run Sadly Kills Woman
Police are working to find the driver of a hit and run that sadly ended up taking a woman’s life in the Oceanside area.
The investigators think they have found the suspected vehicle that was used in the hit and run crash. The woman was just innocently walking in Oceanside when the hit and run ended her life.
The female victim has been identified.
Public Information Officer, Kathleen Vincent with the Oceanside Police Department (OPD), said that the car that was linked with the hit and run was found late one evening. The car was pushed down into the canyon which is near Stage Coach Road.
A local neighbor found the car and then called the police. The neighbor told the local news that his children noticed the abandoned car on their way to school.
Body of Hit and Run Victim Found
The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department said that a man’s body has recently been found along Wellsford Road just east of Modesto. The body was found on Wednesday. According to the reports the victim was a hit and run victim.
Due to the man’s body condition, he was not able to be identified. This was even after an autopsy. They think the man is in his sixties though. According to California Highway Patrol Officer, Chuck Leon, the dental records or the DNA will probably be needed to make the identification.
The man’s body was found on the east side of Wellsford. That is north of Parker Road. The body was found by a County Public Works employee, that just so happened to be on a tractor that is used to cut grass along the shoulder of the road.
According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff"s Sgt. Anthony Bejaran, the police couldn’t say how long the man’s body had been there, however it was definitely more than one day.
The California Highway Patrol has taken lead on the investigation from the Sheriff’s Department. The autopsy showed trauma to the man’s body which is consistent with a traffic accident.
Investigation Underway
Officer Bejaran said that there were tire marks close to the body however it’s unclear in they are related to the hit and run. The man who was hit was wearing a blue and green jacket and black basketball shorts.
