DUI Driver Crashes into a Post
Tragedy strikes again, thanks to the all too common phrase of a “DUI” driver. According to the local police, a man who was suspected of driving while under the influence had crashed into a light post in the Lincoln Heights area. The crash sadly killed his cousin who was sitting in the passenger seat.
The vehicle was the only one involved in the crash. The crash happened around 3:15 in the morning. It was a N. Broadway and S. Avenue 20 near the on-ramp onto the northbound 5 Freeway.
The driver of course was guilty of something so he fled on foot before the officers could arrive to the scene. After the fear wore off, he returned to the scene. He claimed that he lived close to the accident and fled only to go get help. He didn’t know his cousin was dead. He did return with family members who were then told that the victim was dead.
DUI Suspect Flees the Scene
The suspect was later arrested on the suspicion of driving under the influence. The man will also face vehicular manslaughter charges.
Police said that the passenger who died, was the one who was driving the vehicle at first. He stopped on the 5 Freeway for whatever reason and that is when the cousins swapped spots. The crash happened not long after the switch.
The victim’s identity was not immediately released due to pending notification of next of kin.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division, will be leading in the investigation.
Uber Driver Arrested for DUI
Uber can be quite scary. You never know what kind of person is going to pick up. An Uber driver has recently been arrested for allegedly driving while drunk as he was on his way to pick up his passengers, this was after the Super Bowl.
Luckily, an on-duty officer spotted the forty-six year old, Robert Wing was approaching a green light in the Simi Valley and started to slow down. The officer then stopped the suspect. The suspect told him he was on his way to pick up his passengers.
The Uber driver also said that he had made two or three other trips in the city and he was trying to make some extra cash as he was watching the Super Bowl 50 at a local bar.
The officer then of course, conducted a DUI evaluation. The suspect had a blood alcohol level of .25 percent.
According to the press release from the Simi Valley Police Department, the suspect was not sure of his location and relied on his GPS to direct him where to go.
He was later arrested for the DUI and booked into the Ventura County Jail.
