Freeway Closed Due to Fatal Crash on 5 Freeway
On March 8, 2014 an 18 year old Santa Clarita young man was sadly killed in a fatal car crash. He was killed when he jumped from a crashed car and then was hit by a large truck. The truck left the scene on the Golden State 5 Freeway in the Sun Valley Area.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened around four-twenty that evening on the northbound side of the freeway, north of Tuxford Street.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s, Lt. David Smith said that the dead 18 year old man was later identified as Blake Cook. He was of the Saugus neighborhood in Santa Clarita.
The California Highway Patrol think that Blake had been riding in a 2000 Honda Accord Coupe that then collied with a Kenmore Tractor-Trailer. The Big Rig was driven by the fifty-three year old Los Angeles Man.
Eddie Camargo which was the driver of the Honda Accord, was later arrested on the suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs. The California Highway Patrol reported that the Honda did come to a stop in the two left lanes of the freeway.
The California Highway Patrol also said that Blake, Eddie, and an 19 year old young man (who was a passenger in the Honda) had attempted to run to safety but then a 1997 Toyota Corolla struck the big rig. Blake was then struck by a fourth vehicle. That vehicle was described as a big rig. California Highway Patrol report that it left the scene and headed North on I-5.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla is a twenty-seven year old resident of Palmdale. The CHP say that the driver suffered moderate injuries. The 19 year old passenger of the Honda sustained minor injures and Camargo was unhurt. However, Blake was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Blake was a Senior at the Saugus High School.
