Two Year Old Hit and Run Crash

One of the saddest things to hear about is an accident involving a child. Reports claim that a toddler died after he or she was struck by a car in the Central-Alameda neighborhood of South L.A. on Monday morning. The police are calling this a “tragic accident”.

The Los Angeles Police Department said in a news release that there was a twenty-four year old man driving a 1997 Ford F-150 out of the driveway in the 1100 block of East 49th Street. This was just before ten o’clock in the morning. As he was doing this, he struck a young boy.

The uncle told the police that he only drove a few feet in the driveway when he “felt an impact”. The young man immediately stopped but it was too late. He got out of his truck and found his young nephew had been hit by the trucks front wheel.

The little boy sadly died and was announced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles Fire department paramedics.

Police have not released the little boys name.

Family say that they last saw the toddler playing in his home backyard for a short time before the fatal crash. The police say they do not know how the little boy got into the driveway.Little Boy Dies from Tragic Accident

Fatal Hit and Run

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, a twenty-one year old man was accused of killing a pedestrian while driving under the influence as well as fleeing the scene.

Absadi Tewelde Kidane is the young man who is accused of hitting the pedestrian.  Forty year old, Donald Thomas Jr is the victim. According to reports, Kidane hit Thomas with his vehicle as Thomas was paying for parking at the kiosk in the Santa Monica Civic Center lot. That lot is located at 1821 Main Street. That happened on March 21st.

The driver fled the scene and in the process hit another car then fled from the police officers on foot.  Thomas is reportedly a resident of Hawthorne. He was found unresponsive and had critical injuries on Main Street. The man was treated at the scene by the Santa Monica Fire Department Paramedics. He was then transported to a local hospital but sadly died from his injuries.

Lt. Saul Rodriguez Statement From the Santa Monica Police Department:

The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office filed the following charges: Gross Vehicular Manslaughter; Felony Driving Under the Influence; Felony Hit and Run Accident; and Resisting Arrest with Force.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, Keith Schwartz Statement:

Yesterday in London we had a tragic situation in which people were mowed down. We had things like this that happened in France and other countries.

The reports are insinuating that the incident is being called an “act of terrorism” after the investigators found notes in the suspect’s vehicle. The notes were in Arabic writing and he also had a passport which showed that he had traveled to the Middle East.

Lt. Rodriguez Statement:

The case is on-going and SMPD Detectives are investigating any and all possible leads on this matter.
