Possible Drunk Driver Hit and Run Accident Leaves Other Car In Flames

On Sunday, an Escondido police officer went above and beyond to try to rescue and unconscious driver from a car that was in flames.

What happened? The police think that a drunk driver was going north on Broadway in their Nissan Altima when he most likely ran a red light at the intersection very early in the morning. Officer Masten said that it appears that the Altima had hit the Lincoln Navigator which was going West.

A 2.5 year veteran of the department, Officer Joseph Putulowski, was the first one to reach the scene. Masten stated that the vehicles had crashed onto the sidewalk and it appeared that the Nissan Altima was on fire. However, the driver was unconscious.

Officer Putulowski tried to put the flames out with the fire extinguisher however the flames were too large and hot. Officer Putulowski then got into the flaming vehicle and tried to help him. The driver of the Nissan was bleeding from his head.

According to the report, there were two people inside of the SUV. It was a really bad wreck, the firefighters had to use the jaws of life to he them untrapped.

All of the victims that were in the SUV were taken to the local hospital for minor injuries. They think the driver of the Nissan was under the influence.
