Multi-Injury Car Accident Causes Investigation

Friday started the investigation to try to discover what caused a series of crashes in the Fallbrook area that ended up killing a young teen girl and sent others to the hospital. One of the four other people had life-threatening injuries.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal accident happened around four in the evening on South Mission Road. It happened on a Thursday but the investigation continued through Friday.

Jim Bettencourt, California Highway Patrol Officer said that the twenty year old driver of a 2000 Honda Civic. He was going north on South Mission Road and then crossed the yellow line for unknown reasons at this time. That is when he crashed into the Nissan Titan truck. The truck was driven by a sixty-one year old.

According to the CHP, after the collision the Honda had slid sideways then went broadside. The girl who was the passenger in the Honda instantly died in the crash with the passenger side had hit the Toyota pickup.

The Nissan Titan that was involved in the fatal crash had crossed over into a northbound lane and then went up an embankment. Then the Nissan rolled on top of a tundra that was driven by a twenty-seven year old man. The rescue workers took the four drivers to the local hospitals. The Honda driver was the one with the life-threatening injuries, and was flown to Sharp Hospital. The Toyota pickup driver was taken for neck and chest injuries. The drivers of the other two vehicles were taken in for moderate injuries.

According to the CHP report, the South Mission Road was closed for several hours after the crash.
