A 26 year old young woman dies in a light rail Accident. The woman’s friends gathered around a makeshift memorial near the track to pay tribute to their dear friend.
Jessica Lubken, of Denver died after she was dragged by a light rail train near intersection of Welton and 24th street. The Denver Medical Examinainer identified her and an autopsy was to be done the the cause of death will be released. Goodbye notes, floral aragngemtns, and insense was attatched to the base of a street lamp near the intersection. This was just a few feet from where Jessica got caught by a light car and dragged. Her friends called her Jessa.
Jessa’s friends said she was “surrounded by love.” Another said that “She was the smile on your face.” Sounds like she was a great girl and will be dearly missed. Jessica was a bartender at Lannie’s Clocktower Cabaret in downtown Denver. She had other jobs as well. Another friend called Jessa “She was a burner in spirit.” She embodied that into her art and self expression.
Jessica was also a member of the local cycling community and well known figure in her Five Points neighborhood on the edge of downtown. Another friend said she was very much the social butterfly and that was her “hood” or “her side of town.”
Denver Police Homicide Investigators are still looking into the fatal accident. RTD spokesman says that the accident happened on a stretch of D-Line where the tracks run on either side of a sidewalk, near where the two sets of tracks collapse into one. A train heading north must sometimes wait for a southbound train to clear out before it can continue north. If this is taking a while, the train operator can request permission for the passengers to deboard while the train is waiting.
The passengers that want to get off must press a button that opens the door to leave the car. Even if the passengers get off the train, they aren’t supposed to reboard there…they have to go do the designated station. Reed could not explain how the accident happened yet, they were waiting on the pending investigation. Denver police did learn from witnesses that Jessica stood on the tracks and waved the light rail to stop! She walked to the side of the train and got dragged under as the train took off.
