Man and Woman Injured Due to Being Struck By Commuter Bus

A man was killed and a woman had to be hospitalized due to being in serious condition on Wednesday night. This was after they were struck by a commuter bus as they were crossing a busy intersection in the Redono Beach area.
According to the traffic alert from the Redono Beach Police Department, the bus crash happened right before six,twenty in the evening in the Riviera Village area.
The man and the woman involved in the incident was just crossing northbound in the crosswalk of Avenue I and Catalina Avenue.That is when they were struck by the commuter bus, according to Sgt. Shawn Freeman.
Commuter Bus Strikes Two People
Sgt. Freeman also stated that the bus (LADOT Commuter Express bus) had been in the process of completing a left turn, going from the Southbound Catalina Avenue to east Avenue I at the time of the crash. In the process the bus accidentally ran over both of the victims, trapping them both underneath of the bus.
The male victim was sadly pronounced dead at the scene of the bus crash. A tow truck had to be brought to the scene so it could lift the bus off of the unidentified man so that his body could be recovered. According to the report, blue and yellow tarps were visible and covering the front grill of the bus as well as another location underneath of the bus.
The woman was luckily able to be rescued by the firefighters and was immediately taken to a local hospital. She was in serious condition at the time. The extent of the woman’s injuries was not known at the time. Sgt. Freeman did say that she was conscious as she was transported.
Witnesses said that the man and woman victims were “elderly”. The relationship between the injured people were not known either. None of the people on the bus was injured.
