Measles Outbreak Has California on Alert

Californians Taking Caution for Measles Outbreak

A lot of people assume measles are a thing of the past, however it’s made a big come back in California, unfortunately. The disease is quickly spreading through California and health officials are expecting more cases to pop up.

An agency sent out a warning about the disease, saying that the measles outbreak was linked to recent visits to Disneyland and Disney California Adventures. It started back in December. The virus is quickly spreading pas the theme parks and into almost anywhere. The virus has already sickened more than fifty people just in California alone, last week.

Measles Spreading Throughout California

According to WebMD, Measles is spread “Very easily” it can be through direct contact or even by air. Just because you don’t see someone with a rash, doesn’t mean you can’t catch it. The virus can linger in the air for two hours after someone has coughed or sneezed in a room.

Measles virus can last as long as twenty-one days. It usually takes 8-12 days to show signs of measles though. Usually it goes away all by itself, but in severe cases you might need some medicine.

Some of the early signs of Measles is: moderate fever accompanied with a cough, runny nose and red eyes. After those symptoms, the patient’s fever will spike, really high to a 105 degrees. Then a “red blotchy” rash will start to appear, usually around the face first before it spreads through the entire body.

The good news is, that if you have been vaccinated twice for the disease, then you’re low risk of getting the disease. So, make sure you get those shots everyone.
