Metro Train Crash
Train Crashes are pretty severe. There’s no way to stop those massive machines on a dime so when something happens, even if they see it, it’s almost impossible to stop the train quickly.
According to recent reports there was a crash between a Metro Blue Line train and a car in the Compton area. The crash left two people that were in the vehicle as well as one person who was on on the train, injured.
According to the Metro’s, Dave Sotero and Sheriff’s Transit Policing Division spokesman, Ramon Montenegro…the crash happened around 3:43 in the early evening. It happened between the Willowbrook and Compton train stations which is at the 119th Street and Willowbrook Avenue.
Montenegro’s Statement:
Two people in the car were injured in the crash and transported to a hospital for treatment. There was also one person on the train who complained of chest pains after the accident and that person was taken to the hospital as well.
The conditions of the victims were unknown at the time of the crash.
The Metro set up bus shuttles so that they can move the passengers around the crash scene. Which is very accommodating, in my opinion.
According to Montenegro, the crash unfortunately temporarily shut down both northbound as well as the southbound traffic on the tracks. Around 4:45 p.m. the officials were able to re-open at least one of the tracks. The north and southbound trains had to temporarily share the tracks. Which is understandably inconvenient but at least traffic got moving again.
The California Highway Patrol have to conduct an accident investigation due to the fact that the collision happened in an unincorporated section of Los Angeles. CHP usually is quick to respond and investigate.
It’s unclear what caused the crash at this time.
Semi Truck Crash on Train Tracks
Semi Truck crashes are another dangerous type of crash. With a Train involved it would be almost like a deadly combination. Of course, there’s always the miracle cases where no one is severely injured.
According to reports, a semi truck crashed onto the Gold Line tracks which are along the eastbound 210 Freeway which is in Pasadena. The incident caused traffic delays and the Metro trains had to halt operations that Thursday.
Police said that a large truck had crashed into the center divider and then careened on to the Metro Tracks around 5 o’clock in the early morning. Sadly, there was another car involved. Luckily, both drivers in both vehicles were not injured.
Officer Ryan Bejar said that speed was a likely factor in the crash. Which is careless, just thankful that no one got severely injured due to someone’s bad decision.
Officer Ryan Bejar’s Statement about the Crash:
We want to remind people to slow down. I know this is the holiday season and people are in a rush to get to places. But please slow down, take your time.
Traffic on the eastbound 210 Freeway which is near the San Gabriel Boulevard appeared to be not moving at one point of the aftermath. However, things started to slowly begin moving again slowly as the crews worked hard to clear the scene.
Metro even made sure to tweet about there being no train service that day in the Allen Avenue area as well as the Lake Avenue area which is at the Sierra Madre Villa stops. This was due to the Semi Truck. I think the crews worked fast, it could have been a way bigger delay.
According to the reports, the transportation service recommended that travelers take the 180/181 or the 187 lines at the Colorado Boulevard and Lake Avenue. The buses headed out to pick up and transport the passengers.
Of course no one like a detour. This detour sent the daily commuters into a scramble to board the buses that shuttled them around the crash.
Alicia Lopez Statement:
It’s stressful because it’s different. It’s not what we do normally.
The officials are working to see how much damage was done to the train tracks, they can’t do that until the semi truck is removed from the tracks. According to a Metro representative that added issue would be going on for most of that day.Which is understandable, that’s a pretty big job.
There was a SigAlert issued for the incident. They warned drivers that the emergency crews would be blocking the carpool lane as well as the farthest left lane.
