Metro Train and Semi Crash

A Metrolink train was heading south, towards Los Angeles on the Antelope Valley line. The train struck a tractor trailer that was sitting on the tracks. Luckily no serious injuries were reported. Seems like trucks are often getting stuck on the tracks.

The train had just left the Sun Valley station and was not moving at it’s full speed yet. It was reportedly traveling at 15-20 mph when it crashed with the truck. This was at 10:34  a.m. according to Sherita Coffelt who is a spokeswoman for Metrolink.

The irony is not lost on personnel when September is Rail Safety month and the crash happened in September. The agency is working to remind the Los Angeles County residents that if they are or do get stuck on the tracks that they should call the phone number that is posted on the rail crossing so that they can notify the railroad official. Makes sense, any kind of advantage on trying to get a giant train to stop would be helpful I’m sure, however when that happens you’re just so scared you’re not really thinking clearly.

Coffelt’s Statement:

Call the number and it gets sent directly to the dispatching office. They can stop a train before a collision happens.

Tragedy strikes again on a Thursday morning when a man was killed, but this time it was by an apparent suicide. He was struck by an Metrolink Train which was in Orange County.

The man who was on the tracks and struck around nine thirty in the morning. This happened at the Palmyra crossing which is near Almond Street by a northbound 633 line train.

The train goes from Laguna Niguel to Mission Viego and then to Fullerton, according to Metrolink spokesman, Scott Johnson.

The man was reported to be in his mid thirties. He sadly died at the scene. Orange County Police Sgt. Phil McMullin said that it was an apparent suicide. The man’s identity has not been confirmed at this time.

The train reportedly had seven passengers on board at the time of the crash. The passengers were provided alternate transportation by Metrolink. Luckily none of the passengers were injured.

The accident of course caused some back up to the Metrolink trains in Orange County as well as the Inland Empire also an Amtrak train.
