  • Train Derailment in Los Angles

A train derailment has to be a very scary situation. You have no control over the outcome and once something goes wrong on something that big there’s not a lot you can do to correct it.

According to reports, a Metrolink train derailed after it crashed with a tractor trailer on the tracks. This happened in Ventura County and caused dozens of people to be injured.

The truck driver had left the scene when the emergency personnel arrived to the scene. However he was arrested several miles away from the crash and was unharmed. It’s unclear if charges have been filed but the police say that the driver is still in custody. Apparently the crash was the drivers fault since the truck got stuck on the tracks as the driver was turning before the crossing. The driver is not from this area and made the turn a little bit too soon.

There is going to be an ongoing investigation for this crash.

There were fifty-one people involved in the incident according to Sergio Martinez who is with the Ventura County Fire Department. One of the injured was the train’s engineer and several other railroad employees. According to the reports there were twenty-eight people that had to be transported to the local hospitals. Four of the injured was reportedly in “critical condition”.

The Ventura County Fire Department said that the VC Line 102 train was travelling southbound to Los Angeles at the time of the incident. This was at 5:45 a.m. very early morning, or right before the work traffic begins to pick up

For some reason there was a tractor trailer on the tracks there at Rice Avenue and Train 102 collided with it

At this section the train was going east by a read locomotive and travelling at it’s normal speed of 79 miles per hour. The preliminary investigation shows that the driver of the train saw the truck on the tracks and tried to apply the breaks. But going that fast, it takes some time to slow down.

Three of the train’s cars are derailed and lying on their side. All of the trains five cars are considered derailed. According to the reports, the truck caught fire and was left a mangled wreck. After investigating, the police still aren’t sure of the make or model of the vehicle since it was mangled so badly.

All trains were on a major delay for the rest of the day as a result of the crash.
