Derailment Near Winery

A train derailment is not something that can be dealt with quickly. It’s a huge piece of machinery that is heavy and can’t be moved easily when it does turnover. Plus there’s always got to be an investigation that takes a bit of time.

According to reports there are investigators trying to find out what caused a Union Pacific freight train to derail. The derailment happened in Lincoln Heights early on a Friday morning.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman, Brian Humphrey said that the derailment happened close to the San Antonio Winery which is located in the 700 block of South Lamar Street. The crash happened early in the morning, around four o’clock in the morning.

Humphrey also said that there were five cars that derailed in the incident. The two automotive transport train cars were two of the five that derailed.

The local news showed an aerial video and you could plainly see that two of the freight cars had came completely off of the train tracks.

Authorities say that the freight train was travelling in the eastbound direction at the time of the train derailment. Luckily no one was injured. Humphrey said that there was no spill or hazmat concern either. So that’s great news for something that could be potentially dangerous.

Luckily for Metro, the derailment never affected service. However, they did say they would post updates if delays did arise.

Man Killed by Train

Another could be when a person walks onto the tracks. According to the police, a person was sadly struck and killed by a Gold Line train which happened in South Pasadena.

The crash happened just before 7:30 in the morning. Police say it happened at the Pasadena Avenue and Monterey Road.

Kim Upton is a spokesperson for Metro and said that they aren’t real sure if the person had walked on to the tracks on purpose or accident.

The train service had to be interrupted in both directions for the investigation. The identity of the person who passed away hasn’t been identified at this time. The investigation will last for sometime.
