Vehicle Crashes into Another Vehicle
Los Angeles Police say that a crash between two vehicles in the North Hills area left one person dead and eight others (four kids) injured.
There were more than sixty city firefighters on scene after a two vehicle crash happened near Haskell Avenue and Parthenia Street around 11:40 in the late morning.
Nine people were reported injured at first and eight of those were potentially critical.
According to LAPD Sgt. Kurt Smith has said that two vehicles were involved in the crash near Sepulveda Boulevard. At one point one of the two vehicles tried to flee the scene.
The vehicle that fled the scene then crashed into a white minivan which was traveling northbound on Haskell Avenue.
Sgt. Fran Preciado’s Statement:
That suspect vehicle, which is the white 4Runner here, was traveling at a high rate of speed, trying to evade that location. It continued westbound on Pathenia…when it collided with the minivan that was traveling northbound here on Haskell.
There were eight people inside of the white minivan. There were two men, one woman, and four kids. The kids were aged from 4 to 12 years old.
There was a thirty-seven year old father who was riding in the minivan, he was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries according to Sgt. Smith.
All four of the children had to be hospitalized. Two of the children, an eight and a ten year old, had suffered from very critical injuries. The remaining victims, as well as the deceased man’s wife, and the two fleeing in the vehicle had to be transported to the local hospitals.
There was a twenty-one year old female who was driving the fleeing 4Runner. According to the reports, she made an illegal U-turn and then collided with the first vehicle. The victim in the crash tried to follow the suspect on Parthenia Street however stopped when the fleeing vehicle sped up.
The female suspect had suffered from internal injuries as well as a broken arm. The male passenger in the 4Runner was in unknown condition.
The fire department asked that the Mayor’s Crisis Respond team to help them. The investigators were working to find out if alcohol or drugs might have been involved in the crash. After crashes like this, this is normal protocol.
Police believe that the driver of the 4Runner is going to face felony charges.
