Woman Hit By A Car and Killed While Walking
On Saturday, April 5, 2014 a woman was walking beside her bicycle along a darkened highway East of Merced. The thirty-one year old woman was sadly struck by a car and killed. She was from the Visalia area.
According to the California Highway Patrol, her name could not be released yet. They wanted/have to make sure that her family knows about her accident first. The thirty-one year old woman was walking along Highway 140, near Orchard Drive. It was close to twelve, seventeen in the morning.
Because of the woman’s dark clothing, Stephen Coelho accidentally hit her because he couldn’t see her. The fifty-seven year old of Hilmar was driving his 2007 Oregon Roadrunner at the time of the accident. He was driving at 55 miles per hour and going West one 140.
Stephen had swerved to try to miss hitting the woman but unfortunately the front right end of his car still struck the woman. The impact threw the woman to the north shoulder of the road. Stephen then lost control of the vehicle then spun out and finally came to a rest in the nearby intersection. Stephen suffered minor injuries from the car accident.
The California Highway Patrol said that drugs nor alcohol were a factor in this accident. The accident is still under investigation at this time.
