Slip and Fall: A Unexpected Cause of Injuries

A slip and fall; it can happen when we least expect it. You enter an unfamiliar office and spot the person you need to talk to. Your attention turns to her and you don’t notice the ripped seam in the carpet. Falling on the worn carpet gives you first hand acquaintance with trip and fall accidents. Slipping, tripping, and falling means getting hurt on someone else’s property, usually because of some negligence in maintaining or constructing the property or something on it. Property owners have a legal responsibility to ensure their business or private property is maintained sufficiently to protect the visiting public from injury. If you’ve been injured in a slip and fall accident, the law offices of Daniel A. Gibalevich can help.

Legally, these types of injuries fall into a category of law known as Premises Liability. Other frequent types of premises liability cases involve accidents in common every day situations. Poor lighting in stairwells or construction debris left on a sidewalk may pose a hazard. Indeed, a slip and fall injury may occur anywhere people move, work, or walk and the following story demonstrates just that fact.

Diva suing Met says fall silenced golden voice

Recently, an opera diva sued the Metropolitan Opera because she fell from a platform while performing at Lincoln Center and claims she can’t sing anymore.

The mezzo-soprano fell about eight feet from an on stage platform while playing the role of Marthe during an evening performance of “Faust,” according to the suit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.

“She was caused to fall from the elevated platform/balcony level of the set to the ground level backstage, sustaining serious permanent personal bodily injuries,” the suit states.

Falling caused an “inability to perform” that still plagues the singer, the suit adds.

Before falling, the diva was a Lincoln Center veteran with over 500 performances beginning in the seventies and ending the night of her injury, according to the Met Web site.

The suit demands unspecified damages.
